Hello, nature enthusiasts and self-care advocates! As we celebrate International Self-Care Day, it's the perfect time to turn our focus towards environmental self-care. Environmental is one of the seven recognized pillars of self-care. According to Bryn Mawr College, "the environmental aspect of self-care means acknowledging what aspects of the environment are meaningful to you". This wonderful practice is about our home and office space as well as the wider world around us. It not only benefits us but also nurtures the beautiful world we live in. Join me as we explore three exciting environmental self-care activities that will help you reconnect with nature, appreciate the world around you, and foster a sense of well-being.
Nature Hike: Wander and Wonder
There's nothing quite like immersing yourself in the great outdoors, feeling the cool breeze on your face, and hearing the symphony of birdsong all around you. Nature hikes are the ideal way to care for the environment while also nurturing your well-being.
Choose a nearby trail or a secluded spot you've never explored before. Take your time to meander through the wilderness, allowing yourself to be captivated by the beauty of the natural world. Don't forget to pause and appreciate the little things, like the vibrant colors of wildflowers or the intricate patterns on tree barks.
As you embark on your journey, consider bringing along a bag to collect any litter you may come across. Environmental self-care isn't just about enjoying nature; it also involves actively caring for it. By leaving the trail cleaner than you found it, you'll contribute to preserving the beauty for future generations.
Eco-Friendly Picnic: Savor the Flavors, Reduce the Footprint
Who doesn't love a delightful picnic on a sunny day? But this time, let's elevate the experience by making it an eco-friendly affair. Pack your basket with locally sourced, organic goodies and reusable containers. Opt for fresh fruits, veggies, and other tasty treats that leave a minimal environmental impact.
Instead of single-use plastic cutlery and paper plates, consider using biodegradable alternatives or invest in a set of reusable utensils and eco-plates. By doing so, you'll not only enjoy a scrumptious feast but also contribute to reducing waste.
As you savor each bite, take a moment to relish the tranquility of the natural setting around you. Engage your senses—feel the grass beneath your toes, listen to the rustling leaves, and breathe in the crisp, clean air. Embracing nature in its purest form while being mindful of your ecological choices is the essence of environmental self-care.

Mindful Nature Journaling: Express and Reflect
Nature journaling is a therapeutic way to connect with the environment and express your thoughts and emotions. Grab a notebook and pen, find a serene spot in the park or your backyard, and settle in for some reflective journaling.
Allow your senses to guide you as you observe the world around you. Jot down the sights, sounds, and smells you encounter. Let your feelings flow onto the pages, whether it's gratitude for the beauty of nature or concerns about environmental issues.
As you write, you may also brainstorm ideas on how you can contribute to the conservation of nature in your daily life. Remember, small actions, like reducing plastic usage, conserving water, or supporting local eco-friendly initiatives, can make a big difference when done collectively.
On this International Self-Care Day, let's make a commitment to care for ourselves and the environment hand in hand. Environmental self-care is a beautiful way to nourish our souls while preserving the planet we call home. Through nature hikes, eco-friendly picnics, and mindful journaling, we can reconnect with nature, appreciate its wonders, and take steps towards a greener future. So, get out there and embrace the gifts of Mother Earth—your well-being and the environment will thank you! Happy International Self-Care Day!

Excellent self-care suggestions on how one can connect with self and Earth in loving and respectful ways. I especially like your suggestion of having a picnic and being mindful of the carbon footprint you leave behind. Thank you for sharing. Sending love.
These are all wonderful ideas. I do enjoy walking a couple trails that are close to my home, although in cooler weather! It is a great refresher.
I haven’t been on a picnic since the pandemic, but when we did we tried to be as eco friendly as possible when it comes to containers and either reusable cutlery and plates or bamboo cutlery and plates. I’ve never brought organic food though, as their no more eco friendly than regular food
