Angel, these are great recommendations, even for people who don’t experience chronic pain. I especially like the “today, I would like to accomplish…” list. As someone who has ADHD and a variety of perceptual processing challenges, I find that, once overstimulated, I’m not going to accomplish much of that to do list, and I am left feeling like a loser. By reframing it as “today, I would like to accomplish…” I can feel like everything that I manage to do on the list is an accomplishment, rather than focusing on what I didn’t do. I am definitely going to try it!
I’m very glad that was helpful. I pair “I do enough” with that to remind myself that my productivity may not be what it was pre-illness, I still do quite a bit on the good days. The bad days – well, if I got out of bed and managed to do anything else then I count it as a win.
